ABOUT
This project was created in order to keep in a single collection all the mosaics of the Crimean peninsula in the form of photographs,
information. About their authors and their location.
We hope that we can thus influence the preservation of these works of art, because many of them have already disappeared and continue to do so right now.
The project was implemented in 2020-2022 by two enthusiasts, their friends and with the help of information from local residents, for which we are eternally grateful.
Using all available methods, we learned about mosaic works, personally came and photographed them.
Despite the fact that we tried to photograph all the mosaics that we could find out about, we still didn’t manage to get to some. They are located in closed areas of sanatoriums where we were not allowed in, just in closed areas, inside buildings, or have already been destroyed. And some mosaics are still waiting to be discovered. So, we hope the collection will grow.
During the USSR period, a huge number of mosaic works were made in Crimea, and each of them is a unique work of art. Alas, now they are not appreciated and disappear. Mosaic washes into the sea. Crashed during repairs. Just demolished along with the buildings. Or, as in some cases, with the reconstruction of the street. And simply, they crumble from time to time if no one renews them. Sometimes they are plastered and “repaired”, sometimes they are clogged. Somewhere they simply do not count and stick structures into them. Or don't wash. Many mosaics will be gone pretty soon. And many are no more. Due to the fact that no one needs mosaics, they will all, one way or another, disappear pretty soon. But they will remain at least in our photographs.
